Listening to my EP Burn Me Alive is difficult. I hear a person I no longer know. A person I was trying so hard to be.
The release of this EP is less than spectacular for me, something that has made releasing this and promoting it even more difficult. How can I promote something I’m not proud of?
The deeper question actually is, how can I promote something that isn’t mine? Something that maybe contains parts of me at certain points of my life, but in general, is not a reflection of my soul as I now know it.
I have had countless conversations with my dear friend Malo about this project, about the “resurrection” of Arik Dov, about the “death” of myself — something that, when I am on the other side, will be settled. I need to kill myself (figuratively - is it ever truly figurative?), I told him - this music is not mine, this image is not mine, these songs are mine, but they have been hiding so much. But still, my innermost self seeps through them. I catch glimpses of myself in these songs, sprinkled all over, in words, inflections, giving me hints and clues to who I am.
I can’t tell you more than that, for, what is a story without any suspense?
Listen to this EP, burn it, listen to the words I am saying, no longer mine. See me as you have seen me over the years, but know, that I will soon be gone. I will no longer be the reflection of your vision.
Enough words for now.
